Does this Intermittent Fasting thing really work?
This really seems to be one of the most frequently asked questions in the world of fitness and nutrition these days! So, the short answers…
- Does it work for weight loss? Yes
- Does it work for gaining muscle tone? Yes
- Does it work to make you healthier overall? Yes
- Does it work to increase your lifespan? Yes
- Does it work to help with your heart health? Yes
Science has now proven many benefits of intermittent fasting, far beyond just weight loss.
While most people will see a noticeable change in their body composition in a matter of days and weeks, the additional benefits might really outweigh the “weight” issue.
Convenience of diet, less bloating, more energy, clearer skin, increased muscle tone, a higher metabolism, heck, possibly even mental acuity and memory retention….all known potential impacts of intermittent fasting.
The easiest, most convenient fasting protocol, in our opinion, is the 16:8 (LeanGains) method made popular by Martin Berkhan.
In short, following this simple protocol means you fast for 16 hours daily, followed by an 8-hour eating window. Nothing more complex than that.
And yes, it really is easier than you might initially think…if you can, and are willing to, unlearn so much of what you’ve heard and been told for years.
A simple example… finishing your last meal of the day by 8pm, thus making your first meal of the day (breaking the fast) at 12pm the next day.
What? Nothing until noon? Are you crazy?
Nope. Not in the least. With proper planning, water intake and BCAA usage, this is so much easier than you think.
And coffee addicts….yes, you can drink coffee. Obviously, what we put into said coffee will matter, if we intend to stay in a truly fasted state.
