The Real-World, Simple Definition of Nootropics

3D Labs Nutrition: Nootropic Definition

Noo-what? Nootropic….don’t worry, no quiz here. But, while you might not need to pronounce or spell it, you might very well want the definition of “nootropic” in order to understand why you may want it.

Nootropics is an umbrella term for a class of chemicals — some naturally-occurring, some manmade — that provide benefits to the human brain.

As a quick FYI…the word nootropic, is actually derived from two Greek words: “nous,” which means mind, and ”tropein,” which means to bend or turn.

Definition of Nootropic

…a substance (drugs, vitamins, supplements, herbs, etc) that enhances cognitive function, memory, clarity, creativity, energy, motivation, and facilitates learning.

Criteria for Being Considered a Nootropic

Dr. Corneliu Giurgea, the man who coined the term “nootropic”, had five “criteria” that must be met in order for a substance to be considered a nootropic….

  1. Enhance memory and the ability to learn3D Labs Nutrition: BoostMode - Nootropic Definition
  2. Help the brain function under disruptive conditions
  3. Protect the brain from chemical and physical assaults
  4. Increase the efficacy of neuronal firing control mechanisms
  5. Possess few or no side effects and be virtually non-toxic.

Whether you have a science background or not, this list is pretty darn impressive.

Even if just one or two of these benefits was possible from a supplement, with no side effects, it would be hard to believe everyone would not be jumping at the chance to use it.

Who Should Use Nootropics

Nootropics have become very popular, for very good reason, on Wall Street and in Silicon Valley over the past few years.

They are just now becoming as popular within mainstream society.

In reality, anyone looking for better mental clarity, energy, and focus will likely benefit from nootropics!

The really good news…they can be used when needed.

On days where you don’t require the top of your game, you don’t need to pop the pretty capsules.  However, on days where you want to be at your best…they are ready and waiting.

I have never heard of nootropics. Can nootropics be purchased outside of the US? Seems like a very promising product based on what was written. Can you tell me what are the ingredients that make this amazing product described? I am all for natural supplements. Looking forward to more articles from you.

    • The 3D Labs Team says:

Jaye, yes, nootropics can absolutely be purchased outside the States! As for ingredients, there are currently 85 individual supplements that are listed as nootropics. Some are more powerful, more proven, more tested, etc.

Some of what we might call “best in class” would include Citicoline, phosphatidylserine, Bacopa Monnieri, Lion’s Mane, Pine Bark Extract, L-Tyrosine, L-Theanine, Rhodiola Rosea, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B9, Vitamin B12, Caffeine, CoQ10, Creatine…many of which are included in BoostMode!

This article was incredibly interesting. I have never heard about nootropics before… this reading opened my mind. I like the fact that these solutions are non-toxic…. a lot of people are afraid to try new supplements for fear they might damage other aspects of their health. I wasn’t even taking multivitamins before this Coronavirus pandemic after reading some articles claiming they might increase the probability of getting cancer. I’ll bookmark this article so that I have all the right information I need when I decided to try nootropics.

    • The 3D Labs Team says:

Horatius, misinformation, as it does so very often, gives supplementation a bad name. You are not alone!

The irony in the amount of food and meals we eat “out” at restaurants, stores, etc with absolutely no second thought, no testing, zero real knowledge of its contents, handling, etc. but supplementation…is a bad guy in many people’s eyes and minds. 🤔

We certainly hope our desire to educate comes in-hand when, and if, you need it. Stay healthy!

  3. Alan says:

A few years ago, I experienced about six weeks of amazing cognitive ability. I could recall complete phone numbers, specific dates, the details of a conversation I had a couple of weeks prior- things I frankly wasn’t able to do before, or since. It felt like I had a super power.

I don’t know what the cause of this was, but I’m wondering if it had to do with nootropics? I’ve tried diet, environmental changes, meditation, supplements, searching for that magic combination that led to such clarity, all to no avail.

Do you have an idea of what was happening to make my mind work on such a high level of efficiency? Does it have something to do with the ingredients in BoostMode?

    • The 3D Labs Team says:

Alan, it is incredible to have that feeling, isn’t it? When the “fog” we walk around with is lifted, we finally see what it feels like to have clarity. Crazy!

As for what may have caused that enhanced focus during that period for you, no real way to know at this point as many, many things could have been playing a role. Is it possible you were using or taking in, some nootropics during that time (caffeine is a nootropic), yes, you could very well have been as they are not all well-known.

BoostMode is a very potent nootropic “blend”, but intentionally designed caffeine-free since the majority of the population takes in some caffeine daily anyway. This blend is doctor-formulated to provide the enhanced mental calm, clarity, energy and focus without jitters, crashes, etc.

Additionally, we now know that some people will see the effects of BoostMode with as little as a 1/3 (1 capsule) serving size! This is HUGE!!! It makes us very happy!

Do whatever you can sir to find that magic recipe you for those 6 weeks! It rocks! 💪🏻
