8 Ways to Dominate the Next Year

We absolutely DESPISE the New Year Resolution concept in its entirety! (How’s that for an intro?)

Yes, we may be writing this post just after the New Year, but that does not mean you need a “January 1st” to put these suggestions into play. In fact, quite the contrary. We feel terribly for those who wait weeks or months in order to make changes, simply due to some arbitrary date on the calendar.

8 Ways to Dominate the Next Year

So, no matter what day (You Don’t Need a MONDAY), week, or month it is when you take this info in, you need to know and accept, you are literally a single decision away from changing your destiny.

If you want to become more, do more, have more, it is almost guaranteed that changes will be required. After all, what you do now, what you have done to date, is what has gotten you where you are right?

With that said, we want you to know, our below suggestions are not overly tedious. They will not turn your daily life upside down. They do not require you to become a different person overnight, although they may very well do just that over time. Time will tell.

If you are ready to make this next year your best year yet, let’s go!

Important to Know Before You Begin

  • You are in COMPLETE control of your FUTURE!
  • Your DECISIONS ultimately DETERMINE your DESTINATIONS!
  • While you may not have control over what HAPPENS TO YOU, you have 100% control in how YOU REACT TO IT!
  • You are CAPABLE of making ANY change, but you must be WILLING as well!

The Importance of Time

Our parents were not kidding when they told us to “enjoy being a child” because as you get older, “the time flies by faster and faster.”

“Lost time is never found again.” – Benjamin Franklin

They nailed it! Another year has now come and gone and most of us have no idea where the last 365 days have gone.

Unfortunately, it is usually not until we get to the Holidays and start thinking about the New Year, that we realize how much time has passed us by.  We realize how much we wish we would have done. Maybe even regretting how much time we wasted.

When you come to accept the reality of time as being the one commodity that you cannot, under any circumstances, get back, you will begin to treat it differently. Appreciate it more. Waste it less.

Taking Responsibility

There are two kinds of people in the world: those with excuses, and those with results.

“The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the economy, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.” – Albert Ellis

Until you accept, truly, deeply accept, that your future is yours to create, you will almost certainly live life with a victim’s mentality. Victims DO NOT achieve the success they desire. EVER!

In order to create the changes you want, you will first, and foremost, need to accept full responsibility. Stuff will happen. You will make bad choices, mistakes. That is inevitable, but it is not failure.

You only fail when you quit! Otherwise, you are merely learning and becoming more resilient.

Own your life. Make the decisions that you feel will move you closer to your goals. Do so unapologetically. Accept the outcomes, good and bad. Adjust accordingly when necessary. But OWN IT ALL!

Once you’ve decided to do so, read on.

Here are 8 Ways to Dominate the Next Year

Decide Dammit…Enough Already

Where you are today is a direct reflection of the decisions you have made thus far!

Does this mean that we are suggesting that you are not, at times, a victim of circumstances? Absolutely not.

But, the reality is…

“Your CIRCUMSTANCES determine your CHOICES, but your DECISIONS ultimately determine your DESTINATIONS!” – Jason J. Horsley

In order for you to change your destiny, you will need to start making different decisions. It really is this simple.

But, to be fair, in order to make the right decisions necessary to achieve any goal you set, common sense dictates you must first know exactly what it is you want. Right?

What would make you happy? Truly happy? What would you like your days, your weeks, your lifestyle to look like? What do you want to accomplish? What do you want to be known for? What legacy do you want to leave?

Don’t freak out! You don’t need all these answers to get started. But in order to reach any goal, common sense dictates you have to have a very good idea just what the goal is, to begin with, right?

How often do you get in the car and just drive, hoping to reach a “destination” you like?

How often do you get on a plane without both you and the pilot knowing exactly where you are going?

Are you happy with your daily life? Your work? Your body? Your health? Is there something different you would like to see about any one of these areas? Pick one. Just one!

The idea here is not to overwhelm yourself, but instead to give this change thing a trial run so to speak.

Let’s be very clear…”I want to lose weight” is NOT a goal! That is a hope at best. If the goal is not finite, you have zero chance of putting a plan in place to achieve it.

Now, if you would love to lose 15 pounds…we are good to go! Success can be achieved if you have a plan and the will to stick to it.

Is there any doubt, the single best way to get from Point A to Point B, is to know where both Point A and Point B are?

Yeah, we didn’t think so either! Now it is time you just decide what it is you really, really want.

Good news…you started reading this article, you are still reading this article…so the only real remaining decision to be made, do you keep reading and then take immediate action?

Take Control of Your Time

What gets scheduled, gets done! And the more you schedule, the more free time you will have.

We know, that sounds so contradictory. But ironically enough, it is very, very true.

The reason? Simple! When one fails to work off a schedule, a plan, the majority of time gets wasted. Truly thrown away on meaningless, trivial stuff that serves little to no purpose and costs you unrecoverable time.

And guess what, the more productive you are, the more energy you will have.

We know, sounds ironic again, but we promise, it is very true.

When you learn to operate off of a schedule, a calendar of sorts, where you know how and where your time is being spent, you will be amazed at how quickly your energy levels and your desire to get more done increases.

The more time spent in front of the TV, on the couch, on social media, or uselessly browsing the World Wide Web, the less you, in turn, want to do.

The more you move, the more tasks and you see yourself complete, the more you will inevitably want to get done.

Remember, as we said before, time is your most valuable commodity. You have a limited amount of it over the course of your lifetime for sure.

Unfortunately, not one of us knows the length of our lifetime. Therefore, every moment wasted is a risk.

Plan your priorities and schedule your time.

Each and every one of us has proven, time and again, to have the uncanny ability to make time for what we want.

However, only the most successful individuals have a plan and make time for what they need first.

This is one of the very traits, skill sets that determines those who do, those who have, versus those who merely want.

Start Off Right

How you start your day has a direct impact on how your day will go. Each and every time.

The more successful the start of your day, the more planned, the better the rest will go.

Don’t believe us? Take a second and think of what the day feels like when you hit the snooze button, roll out of bed late, rush to get ready, start your entire day in a REACTIVE mode?

“Lose an hour in the morning, and you will spend all day looking for it.” – Richard Whatley

Is that really when you see your greatest daily success? Is it when you are really your most productive?

Yeah, we didn’t think so!

When you start your day with a plan in place (hopefully decided upon before bed the night before) and your feet hit the ground with intention, you are in control from the start.

When you decide the start of your day, and thus, your success is more important than the useless reality TV show that you stay up an hour later to watch, you will be amazed at how quickly life begins to change.

Again, choose how you spend your time!

Get Your Move On

The earlier you move, the better you will feel. Absolutely no question about it!

If you want to see your energy levels increase, your focus enhanced, your momentum compounded…MOVE, first thing in the morning, immediately upon waking.

Now, before you freak out and shout you don’t have time…STOP! Keep reading.

“Remember that any exercise is better than no exercise.” Anonymous

Morning movement doesn’t need to be a full-blown exercise program. It doesn’t require a gym. Heck, you don’t even need more than a few minutes honestly.

Pay attention…just a few minutes here could make a very big difference in the way you feel and operate each morning before you are even dressed.

Wake, drink 8-16oz of water, brush your teeth, and right before you jump in the shower, do just a few things that will get the blood flowing in your body and brain.

We don’t need to tell you exactly what to do or in what order, but we will give you some simple suggestions that no excuses can be made for avoiding.

Jumping jacks, pushups, bodyweight squats, toe touches, arm circles (forward and back), etc…

Seriously, pick 4-5 such movements. Do 10 of each for 2-3 rounds.

You’re done! Blood is flowing! Now go shower.

Make a pact with yourself, you will do this every morning for the next week, without fail! Then, a week from now, send us a message and tell us we were wrong! Dare ya!

Cut the White Noise

Reactivity is KILLING society! We have truly become “Pavlov’s Dog”! It is time to gain control back.

Want to know the quickest way to cut the unnecessary “white noise” that plagues us? TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS!

The second best way, adjust your home screen on your mobile phone!

We can promise you right here and now, if you remove all the “social”, non-essential apps from your home screen, you will be less inclined to waste time scrolling endlessly. It may sound overly simple and even silly, but it works.

Anything you can do to require less visibility or extra steps to these “time-wasters” will work wonders.

Just so you know, one recent study estimates Americans now spend FIVE HOURS A DAY on their phones. That’s 76 days a year roughly a third of our waking life. End these crazy, unnecessary dopamine “hits” to your brain.

It is time to regain control of your life and stop living vicariously through others…via “social media”!

Eliminate the Negative

Everything in life and we do mean everything is either an asset or a liability.

Everything you own. Every relationship you have. Every conversation you hold or continue. Everything!

In almost all cases, assets are good. Liabilities are bad. (There are some very specific exceptions here.)

When you learn to genuinely, unemotionally consider the things that take up time, space, feelings, etc in your life, you will be quickly amazed at just how many liabilities you have chosen to live with.

NOT GOOD! Time for those to be gone!

This may sound cold. May sound calculated. But if you were to pause, removing emotions just long enough to weigh the true pros and cons of anything that takes up time, space, feelings, in your life, you will be amazed at how quickly you can see the assets vs the liabilities.

And one final thought, as nice as it may seem to be playing the sounding board to all your friend’s issues and problems the bad news is…it takes its toll on you as well. And you will most likely never even realize that it does.

Choose wisely! You cannot SOLVE everyone else’s problems so it might be a good idea to stop LISTENING to everyone else’s problems.

Learn Daily

There is an education in everything. In every decision, every “mistake”, every loss, every win, every day, week, month, and year.

Unfortunately, most of us are so busy simply trying to get through each day, we fail to take time to review what actually happened, what we learned. This inevitably leads many to live the same day repeatedly, in and out (think Groundhog’s Day), making many of the same decisions, and/or mistakes, then being pissed that things didn’t change.

Take the time to review your calendar, your day, the decisions you made and the lessons you can take away.

Remember, continuing to do the same thing, over and over, and expect, wish or hope for different results, is, in fact, insanity.

Be smarter than the average bear…please.

Take five to ten minutes at night, before going lights out, to think or journal about the day, as well as, quickly taking a peek at the day to come. This will, over time, make a noticeable difference not only on your decision-making but also in your journey.

Just Fast Baby

Have no fear. The suggestion here is not starvation in order to create a skin and bones version of yourself. Not even close.

Intermittent Fasting is, however, one of the most powerful, easiest, and most freeing dietary changes one can make to their daily life.

As previously discussed, time is of the essence. We only have so much of it and we MUST spend it wisely.

One way to make much better use of your time, and feel a whole lot better while doing so? Intermittent Fasting. AKA…time-restricted feeding.

If you don’t know much about IF yet, feel free to read through some of our previous articles on the subject here.

And, just so you know, we are very confident intermittent fasting will be the single greatest dietary rule of our lifetime. One simply cannot argue with the science, the results or the thousands who are ditching the “grazing” morning to night mentality, on a daily basis.

Decisions Determine Destinations

Obviously this is not a full list of things you can and might want to do, in order to make the most of the next 12 months, but we are pretty confident, if you put just half of these ideas into play, you will see a noticeable difference in your happiness and productivity.

Just remember, while this posted shortly after the New Year, you don’t need a new week, month, quarter, or January 1st in order to make changes.

“What you have and where you are today are a direct reflection of the choices you have made. If you want a different outcome, you will need to start making different choices.”

Like even…TODAY!

Always Remember…

You only have one life to live, one body to live it in, so take care of it. Progress, not perfection. Good, better, best with your food intake and some form of movement daily. Get your nutritional foundation from food, supplement where necessary, and drink plenty of water. We are here to help so feel free to drop us comments or questions as often as you’d like and always consult your physician before making any changes to your diet or exercise regiment.
